The property is perfect for the young and young at heart, there has been a total overhaul of the entertainment facilities which now include 3 of the most exciting and modern bars and a nightclub situated within the hotel, the nightclub is open Thursday - Saturday plus Sundays on a Bank holiday weekend from 10:00PM - 3:00AM.

Our first impression was what a Grand Looking Hotel and although it may need a lick of paint here and there but what an lovley Atmosphere. The gentleman on Reception was great, very helpful and sorry i did not get his name. Our bedroom was very spacious and a Glorious view of the sea. Some other reviews were not so good but I must disgaree with all of them, if you want a 4star Hotel then got to the Hilton this Hotel has survived two world wars and is very Historic and has a lovley feel when you walk in. The Breakfast was great with everything you could ask for and it was waitress service which was another bonus, so overall if you want a Hotel with character, nice staff, clean rooms and lovley meals and exzcellent location then you must try THE REX.

Hi Esther, We stopped at the Rex for a long weekend and found it good value for money.We have stayed in beeter hotels but for the price we payed I dont think it could be beaten.There were some stag parties staying at the hotel at the same time as us and apart from the odd swear word which did not bother us they were polite and very friendly.The staff were very very good and a credit to you.We did hear from a member of staff that at times the stag parties could get out of hand but speak as you find we had a good time. Absolutley nothing to like about this hotel.. An appauling hotel withextremley rude reception staff the corridor to my room was riddled withdamp and peeling wallpaper the window in my room didnot shut and thesils were caked in pigeon droppings and nests.. The room carried smellof a mixture damp and pigeon droppings the tv only had three channelsand the breakfast was poor to say the least do not stay here in allhonesty a bus stop and cardboard box would be more comfortable

We were made very welcome by all the staff. Breakfast was excellent. We found it by chance and felt that we were very lucky to drop on such a lovely welcoming hotel. We will definately go back!.

Lovely staff, lovely breakfast. Room was spotless. Only downside for us was that certainly our room was not as soundproofed as a purpose built hotel and we could clearly hear everyone coming and going. Not a major problem though.

Very friendly welcome, lovely clean comfortable room with everything we needed eg coffee, tea, biscuits - even chocolates! Good quality TV, hairdryer etc. Comfy beds. Everything in good repair. Very homely. Close to excellent restaurants. Staff couldn't do enough for us. Even a vegan breakfast which I find hard to get at big city hotels. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Great value for money.

The welcome was warm and friendly, the owner showing us to our room . He pointed us in the right direction for good eating establishments. the room was very clean with soft white towels and an efficient shower. A good overnight stopping place. When we stayed all rooms were occupied

Tv could have had more channel choices; parking is free near the hotelas long as you leave before 9,30am. The bed was very comfortable and thelocation is convenient for the seaside.

The lady on duty when we arrived and the owner whom we met the nextmorning at breakfast were really lovely and helped us with all ourquestions. Wifi wasn’t available there but we were able to goto the main building to use it there. Breakfast the next morning was inthe main building and was very nice. Overall a clean, pleasant and verybasic budget hotel.

Hotel is situated right in the middle of whitley bay nightlife,will definatley stay again when going up to newcastle to see or friends,owners were very nice & helpfull & great breakfast.
