The Dragon Hotel is an historic 17th century family run former Coaching Inn, set in the quiet village-sized town of Montgomery, in the stunning countryside of the beautiful rolling landscape that is The Welsh Marches (borders of Powys and Shropshire). A warm welcoming hotel with fine food whether a single night's bed and breakfast, a short break or a longer holiday.

If you want a quiet country hotel with good food and real ales, this is a good choice. Staff were very pleasant and attentive during our 3 day stay. We asked to change rooms after our first night as the bed was very uncomfortable and gave me back ache and it was no trouble at all to do so. The second room we stayed in was fine. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and the small town had some very interesting shops - Bunners is a must to visit, a real Aladdins Cave! The hearty breakfast set us up for the day. We had elected for half board but could select what we wanted from any of their menus and pay the difference if there was any. It was a very relaxing break - just what we wanted.

Reception was good and staff were helpful and efficient. The room wasadeqate, as was the bathroom, though a bit of tlc would not go amiss. The public areas were interesting and full of character. The car park was on private land belonging to the hotel, and was convenient and secure. We had booked a room at a special reuced charge of £60.00, excluding breakfast, and think that is about thr right price for what we had. We would not have been happy to pay the normal quoted price.

Beautiful old hotel with great pub and lovely restaurant. Added bonus ofof a modern swimming pool & sauna! Staff are very helpful and friendly.Montgomery is a lovely village and the Dragon a great place to baseyourself for the Marches.

I booked this Hotel as a Birthday treat for my Sister. I need not have worried at all. From the moment we arrived we were looked after shown to our room, which was warm and comfy had evening meal at the Hotel this was excellent and breakfast was fab too. If we stay in Shrewsbury in the future we would definately stay here.

I stayed here for just one night, I usually stay at Holiday Inn or similar. I found the quality, comfort and friendliness of staff to be quite exceptional, one of the most comfortable hotels that I have ever stayed in and I will be using this hotel in the future.

This hotel is just a few kilometres from the bustling town of Shewsbury. We were impressed by the quiet and tranquil setting of the Wroxeter Hotel and its ’country’ atmosphere. While this hotel does not offer high end luxury, it certainly provided us with good, clean accommodation at a very reasonable price. The receptionist on the front desk was delightful, offering to go that bit extra by printing out maps and directions.

A very well kept hotel standing in lovely grounds with good outside space in which to relax. Staff were efficient and very friendly, The food was excellent, breakfast was top class with a good choice. A pleasant bar offered good bar food and the restaurant was excellent value with a wide menu. The thing that set this hotel apart was the little extras that have gone missing from many hotels, good quality products in the bathroom, plenty of quality choice in tea/coffee and hot chocolate in the room, plent.

The hotel staff were welcoming and helpful, and the breakfast was good,The hotel is set in beautiful countryside, but there was a great deal to do nearby - in fact, Wroxeter Roman Villa, the village church (part Anglo-Saxon) and the Roman Vineyard were all within walking distance, with a lovely National Trust property a five minute drive away. It was also a great starting point for walking the Shropshire hills. This is definitely somewhere we would consider staying again.
