Hotel was old, had plenty of character but with modern facilities andamazingly no creaky floorboards. Both the bedroom and bathroom wereroomy and the bed was comfortable. No noise from neighbouring rooms.Varied menu and excellent food. Huge choice for the inclusive breakfastand lots of it if you wanted it. Plenty of room to park in carpark. Alsoa brilliant place to stay if touring places in the area. The staff werefrienfly, helpful and very hardworking.

we stayed , as our golf centre was holding an evening get together , christmas dinner etc which we enjoyed very much, food perfect. Followed by a comfortable double room and delicious breakfast. My only regret is that I paid my bill by cash and wished I had got a receipt as proof of paying, which isn`t a problem as have no concern that all your staff are honest. Yes would stay at the Bear Hotel again and would recommend it. Many thanks

Wheelchair access was good from the disabled parking on the level justby reception. Could do with a door bell on the outside door as there isno means to contact reception and you have to get through the heavyouter door to get to the intercom on the inner doors. The staff werevery helpful and the room was large enough to allow access to the bedand around the bed. Its also great to have an accessible bathroom, asthat is often a gamble you have to take with accessible hotel rooms. Iliked the freedom the hotel room door gave me to come and go as Iplease, asking for help each time can be a bit annoying. This one foronce had a light door closure and not a heavy one.

The location: effectively right by the A3/M27 junction, is a relief after a long drive. It is in a kind of forgotten spot of Hampshire. The village by the hotel is picturesque, and the view from my window, across the Portsea Island, with the hills of the Isle of Wight forming a background, cast a different kind of light on an area where I grew up and moved away from.

the hotel was good value and conveniently located and served the purpose of being a good stopping point from the cros channel ferry . you might advertise in the Britanny ferry house mag.

I chose this hotel because it looked really excellent from the photosonline and previous guests’ reviews. There was also free onsite parking, which other hotels did not offer. Our waitress was really friendly andvery efficient - despite a busy breakfast service she was reallyattentive - very impressive. Due to a lunchtime wedding invite, we hadasked if there was any possibility we could.

The hotel was fine but more like a b and b rather than a hotel. We did complain but the hotel was full so just put up with it. did not work and there was never anyone on reception to ask. Honestly would not stay there again.

My wife and I found all members of the family that run this hotel very helpful and friendly. The room was excellent as was the breakfast and we would have no problem recommending this hotel to our friends and would certainly book it again if we come down to Portsmouth in the future. definately 9 out of 10. Surprised at the comments on some of the reviews considering our experience.

We were made to feel very welcome, even with two young children in such a premier place. The hotel was a perfect treat and excellent value for money. The hotel had spent a lot of time on detail and had many interesting paintings, ornaments and was furnished immaculatley. Thankyou for an excellent break.

The hotel is quaint and slightly old-fashioned, but this is not meant to be detrimental. It could be called ’retro’ in some circles! We enjoyed our time at the hotel and the enternainment provided was ideal for those requiring it. It is close to the beaches and the town itself. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and felt it was very good value.

Guests have the option of choosing their own eatery in the evening, from the many that are located close by in the Old Village or Shanklin Town. The Braemar is located in Shanklin Old Village, the oldest part of the town, with quaint thatched cottages, excellent, pubs, restaurants, shops and the spectacular Shanklin Chine, which is a deep gorge, cut out of the rock to form a beautiful valley leading down to the sea. Activities / Services: Terrace, Non-Smoking Rooms, Babysitting/Child Services, BBQ Facilities, Luggage Storage, Wi-Fi/Wireless LAN, Free Wi-Fi Internet Access Included ... Blessed by Britain's best weather, and rich in visible history - Roman villas, medieval castles and historic houses - the isle possesses an extraordinary grace. Although moments from the charming thatched cottages, cafés and gift shops of the Old Village, it's very secluded as its garden faces acres of woodland.
