The Hotel De Las Letras H&R pays homage to the world of literature and to the pictogram as the first element of written language, with texts by different authors silkscreen printed on the walls throughout the hotel, including poems, essays and extracts from stories. The treatment of colour and light, modern materials used in a classic way, the choice of all the details and elegant, original and modern decoration, denote that the hotel combines the buildings charm with 21st century modernity, making it the most up-to-date historic hotel in the city, the most modern classic in the Gran Va. Almost all the rooms in the hotel have exterior views, depending on the arrangement of the different types of room: Basic, Superior, Plus, DLs and Duplex, adapted to the buildings special characteristics, the large terraces lined with Ipe wood on the fifth floor, the four turrets which crown the upper part of the building, the glazed galleries which form part of the exterior faade and the sixth floor terraces with individual Jacuzzi, ready for use whatever the season and from where Madrids wonderful skyline can be enjoyed.

We stayed at De Las Letras for three nights in June, 2011. Although the hotel was undergoing major rennovations we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. Staff was extraordinarily helpful and cordial; room was one of the best we've visited in Europe (and we go there often). Large, quiet, clean and well appointed and the price point is perfect. Very well located--can walk to Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor in 15 minutes. I would rate the restaurant as fair to good (had only one meal); the buffet breakfast was elaborate but a bit expensive for our tastes. We ate breakfast at bar which offers a very nice continental breakfast for 5 Euros. (Starbucks fans will find one within 150 yards) If we return to Madrid we definitely would stay there again.

The hotel is in walking distance to everything. Clean, comfortable withexcellent staff. And recently refurbished. The roofterrace added thatextra something. Saskia at the reception gave us an excellent, warm, personal and very professional welcome at the arrival. And the staff atthe breakfast where very serviceminded. An extra gold star to the peopledoing the room and leaving it in perfect condition every day, no matterhow late we left the room. It was always tidied up when coming back! Wehad an excellent stay at de las letras and will recommend the place toour friends!

This was one of the best hotels I've ever stayed! All positive reviews I read were absolutely true! Very nice, clean and stylish room, good breakfast. The hotel is close to all museums and main shops, metro station is 1 minute walk. We asked for quiet room before hand and got one with the view over the side street. But even if we had one overlooking Gran Via, it wouldn't be a problem, as the windows are very effective against noise! After check out they kept our luggage till the train time! Thanks DL for the wonderful stay in Madrid!
