Excellent location (Pub Number Two in front of Hotel), Between the Marina and the Lido areas - walking distance to both, friendly staff, excellent garden and pools. The staff was kind to take care of our luggage before check-in and after check-out. All employees very very professional and very kind. Excellent 5 stars hotel.

Large hotel with three swimming pools (two outside with sea water), good health center with all facilities (gym, jacuzzi, swimming pool and scotish shower) were free of charge; tennis, billiard also not extra charged. Location: beautiful ocean view and rocks, close to Funchal center, many restaurants nereby. Standard room is large enough.

Very good 4 stars, better then what you get on average. No own exit to the sea, but the nearest place isjust a short walk from the hotel. There are plenty of good restaurantsaround. The hotel had special arrangement with the army camp on a nearbyhill, which provided excellent view on the New.

Sitting on the balcony looking from our room across a moonlit ocean. There are plenty of sun-beds, the area was not over-crowded and the facilities available are superb. The breakfast was better than expected and the staff were all helpful and demonstrably thoughtful. Good English spoken throughout and the hotel was spotlessly clean.

Wonderful, spatious, room with a spactacular view over Funchal and the sea. Staff very helpful in organising levada walks, tours, etc. We didn't use the pool, but it is very attractive and clean.

The apartments were well serviced with lovely views. The pool area wasspacious with available loungers and umberellas. The reception althoughonly open at specific times was really helpful and there was enoughinformation and help, whilst allowing you to remain independant which iswhy we choose self catering.

This appartment offers real value for money: the owner, Ms. Marina was really professional and she provided us full support regarding our arrival, accomodation, rent-a-car organization and all other questions/requests we had. Spacious appartment on the top of the app. house with beautiful view on Funchal and the port, well equipped and clean. The pool looked nice and clean, but we haven't used it as we were around the island during all days.

Very personal, they also kept the other clients in mind by informing us when there was others in the pensao so we would by quiet as not to disrupt their sleep or quietness.. The cost per room was so afordable. Mr Horta makes a great scrambled egg! This place is perfect if you don't plan on spending the day lounging. But out exploring. thank you I have made new friends

Plenty of restaurants around, ideal fordinner. 2 single bed room, at the 2nd floor, with a small balcony and aview on the hill and Monte.Hôtel très bien situé, proche du téléphériqueet du centre ville de Funchal, permet de tout faire à pied. Lepropriétaire et son fils sont très accueillants. Bon et copieux petitdéjeuner. Beaucoup de restaurants dans les alentours, idéal pour ledîner. Chambre avec 2 lits 1 place, 2nd étage, avec un petit balcon etvue sur la colline et Monte.

I can't speak too highly of this bed and breakfast. Had been staying for the previous 6 nights in one of the most expensive hotels on the island so was expecting a bit of a `come down'. Our en suite room on the ground floor of a house on a quieter side street oposite the main Pensao was large and spotlessly clean. The breakfast was basic but personally served and more than adequate. The father and son team were kindness itself, even driving us (myself and wife) to the bus stop on the morning of our departure. The location is also brilliant as it is very near restaurants (I recommend Embairador Madeirense on Rua dos Barreiros for atmosphere, value for money and lack of touts outside).as well as close to the town centre, bus station, etc.

Lovely & oldfashioned furniture,it was exactly what was paid for.Theowner/manger /chambermaid/waitress etc Sara,was lovely .The location waslovely.The small garden was really loved & taken care of.The breakfastwas excellent,ther was more food than was expected.But it is up the sideof the mountain in Funchal ,so be prepared for some seriously steepwalks to get anywhere.The centre of Funchal & the sea are downhill &ther are millions of taxis to take you back up.

The room we had - ok for one night only -was a bit mouldy - so a better isolation of the wall would be worth it -but I guess the rooms above are better isolated. As the Hotel is quitesteep uphill, it is not possible for normals to walk up there - but apublic transport bus runs there.

The treatment of the staff was so nice, friednly and helpful. The hotel is away from the city traffic and too touristic areas which does help to relax. Good for families.

Very friendly staff, nice garden, good breakfast with homemade jam,idyllic place above Funchal. Lovely & oldfashioned furniture,it was exactly what was paid for.Theowner/manger /chambermaid/waitress etc Sara,was lovely .The location waslovely.The small garden was really loved & taken care of.The breakfastwas excellent,ther was more food than was expected.But it is up the sideof the mountain in Funchal ,so be prepared for some seriously steepwalks to get anywhere.The centre of Funchal & the sea are downhill &ther are millions of taxis to take you back up.

Vila Marta is not the Hilton Hotel - it's much, much better and much nicer! From the moment we arrived in the evening darkness in our rented car, and until a week later when we parted, it was like visiting a dear family we had long missed. Nice rooms and great views, fresh baked bread at the door each morning. Joel and Bruno helped with any questions during the week - including weather forecasts and advice, and Marta surprised with a bottle of homemade wine - which we had gotten a taste of, and liked. And flowers, hugs and kisses when we left early saturday morning. Thanks for a wonderful experience - we are quite sure where we want to be next time we come to Madeira. Thanks to the nice and very kind people in Vila Marta - Joel, Bruno and Marta! Christine and John - Sweden/Mallorca/Denmark

We liked very much our stay at Vila Marta (also loved Madeira). We thinkit was an excellent choice for our honeymoon. First thing, the ownerfamily is very friendly and helpful. We did not really had time to learntoo much about Madeira before getting there so all the advices from Mr.Bruno were a great help to us. Also they helped us with a lot of otherthings: taxi from the airport, renting a car, indications to goodrestaurants, shops, locations to visits. The room was very clean,spacious and well equipped (kitchen). Also to mention the beautifulflowers from Mr. Joel that we appreciated very much. Bus station to goto center of Funchal is very close (also we enjoyed the "montagne russe"trip with the bus :) Overall we highly recommend Vila Marta.

Very high service mindset among the personel and in generel a very welcoming athmophere. We received a twin room with balcony, flowers, fruits and a great view over the sea. Everyting very nice and clean. Kitchen was well equipped including a microoven. Free morning bread delivered every day outside the room even though breakfast was not included. Very good supermarket and restaurent in walking distance from the apartments. Free parking outside the hotel. Free wireless internet was available in the reception area. Thanks for nice stay. We will come back.

People were very friendly and willing to help. Arriving in the middle of the night was no problem. The breakfast was not very extensive, but had very friendly hotel staff helping you in the morning, and weren’t very strickt in the timing.

Location is ok- 5 minutes to the centre of the town. Hotel is clean,Staff is really nice. Iliked the breakfast, which was for free- nice way to start a day. Lovelyview from the window in the room.

Friendly staff, who were very helpful, first night asked directions to bar told to wait 10 minutes and lady on desk gave us lift to bar after her shift finished as it was on her way home. cheap and cheerful rooms for price but clean enough. if your looking for a cheap stay with no thrills this is your hotel. if you like air conditioning and lifts this is not your place.

Charming local facilities and surprisingly cheap bars with tasty food, (2 meals - meat and veg/salad 11 Euros - Beers 1 Euro each) Complimentary Poncha/Olives and other tasty snacks arrived with the drinks. City in walking distance and buses frequent. The City and suburbs are clean and attractive - lots of dogs and other animals but no sign of the usual mess associated with them.

Beautifully restored 19th century house furnished with lovely antiques. Quiet part of town with wonderful views over Funchal below. Family owners were charming and helpful in every way: adult daughters spoke excellent English. Pleasant restaurants within easy reach for dinner. Ready access to roads & buses into or out of the city.
