Loved the surrounding countryside. It's not completely cut off fromcivilisation, but set in a nice old forest. The nice, cleansauna/pool/gym facilities were also nice and just what I needed after along drive. Service in the bar in the evening was friendly and food isalso up to your average Dutch standard.

Room was large as I had twin room with ensuite. I belive there may be only two such rooms. Great for trams. Walked to Rijksmuseum and a 20min walk to Anne Frank. Included breakfast was ample if not dull. Warning: the initial step are the steepest I have experience while in Amsterdam: they go almost streaight up leading from lobby. I have friends that would not make the climb. Yes, I would stay at this property due to it's location. And, even being steps from the Leiderstatt, the noice level was not distracting at night. Enjoy.

Pleasant and helpful staff, clean facilities, comfy bed. The location was excellent, close to a lot of restaurants and right next to the city center. Breakfast was more than we had hoped for: toast, ham, eggs, juice and coffee. Will stay there again the next time I go to Amsterdam

The best location I've stayed in Amsterdam. You are within 30 secondswalk of bars (nice English-style pub practically below the ho(s)telitself), restaurants and shops. An added bonus, the renowned "Smokey's"coffee shop is just next door (if you are into that). It is as centralas the name suggests, with very friendly staff and reasonablycomfortable rooms (especially considering the price). Also, from otherreviews I expected lots of stairs. Maybe we were lucky as we had only 1flight to climb and this was quick and easy. Well worth the money, willuse this hotel everytime I visit.

After reading several bad reviews about the City Hotel, I was very wary of going in March 2011, but on arrival the reception staff was very helpful and very friendly! Although the rooms are very basic, but this reflects in the price! Very central to everything! Everything was in walking distance! And if you do not want to walk, trams are facing this hotel. Would defo go back to the City Hotel. After staying here and experiencing it, the bad reviews wrote, must be people who are very fussy and posh lol

We send a group of designers and engineers to the mets exhibition at theAmsterdam rai every year. It is always a challenge to find good, reasonably priced accommodation in the centre of Amsterdam for up to 6people. I have had really good feedback from everyone returning fromthis last trip and will definately try to book it again for next year. Iam told it was clean, comfortable and very central for restaurants andentertainment.

The service by the staff was superb. From sorting an error on our part,to helping with luggage, directions, suggestions for sights andactivities. They were very accommodating when we needed to leave luggageafter check-out. They were very friendly every time we had contact. The room was not top quality, we knew that would be the case, but it was clean and tidy and very adequate for our needs. It was probably a bit better than expected due to the price we paid which was quite reasonable compared to other places considered. The breakfast and dinning room was very clean and tidy and we had no concerns of any sort with the provision and care of the food provided. We would recommend this hotel to budget conscious travelers.
