Excellent value in the off-season. Overall a good hotel with good facilities. (but, after all that is what is expected!) However, for me the quality of the reception service took this hotel to another level. The welcome felt good and genuine. One of the most professional and friendly reception teams I have met. Importantly, the level of professionalism never dropped throughout our stay.
Anne  — 26.11.2011.
The hotel is ideally located with plenty to do nearby and a great basefor exploring beautiful Connemara. One of the reasons I chose the hotelwas for the swimming pool but unfortunately I ruptured my Achillestendon before our trip and ended up in plaster so I'll have to comeagain to try it out! My sister enjoyed it. The staff were friendly andhelpful. I'd definitely recommend.

Warmth & friendlyness of staff right through hotel. Also new manager &his wife( don't know names) bring a very family & professional finish tothe hotel. Clare at reception knows her stuff. Young lads in restaurantcouldn't do enough for you, they are jack of all trades having to servein the resident bar too. A credit to housekeeping the hotel is spotless.

This place has so much character. From the moment you drive down thedriveway towards the car park you know it's one of those special places. For anyone who appreciates history and staying in a old castle/abbey asopposed to the modern soulless hotels then this is the place for you. Itis said that there is a core of their customers that come back to thisplace year after year and I can see why. The majority of those peoplewould be 50+, if the age of the clientele the night my wife and I stayedthere is anything to go by (Not just Irish, but many tourists from aroundthe world). The staff are very warm and friendly as is the african greyparrot that sits in the reception lobby talking away. The bedrooms haveold furniture (all part of the character) and if you are lucky enough toget a room at the front of the hotel, have lovely views of the groundsand into Clifden Town. We had breakfast in the restaurant which wasbuffet style and plentiful. It too has a special atmosphere, with thefriendly staff

Lovely hotel, old fashioned luxury. This hotel is perfect for a relaxingor romantic break. The room was spacious and comfortable. The staff weregreat. Afternoon tea with scones served from 3 to 5 pm (free!) was alovely touch, we had ours on a comfy sofa infront of an open fire. Iwouldn't call this hotel 'grand' but it is charming. I would reccommendit for anyone that needs a break or for people who like their holidaysomewhere close to the great outdoors, clifden is beautiful.

We went during the Arts Week and the atmosphere and ambience of Clifdenwere very well replicated in the hotel. Our room was really excellent aswas the food at dinner. I felt however that breakfast could have beenbetter, and the ''tinned fruit salad ''let the place down .On generalour third visit to the Abbeyglen was a happy one ,and one that we wouldhoope to repeat.

Central location, very comfortable with an easy sense of 'home fromhome' whilst being well looked after after. Perfect for a relaxing stayduring the exceptionally rich Clifden Arts Festival with events also inthe hotel. Entry lounge with comfortable sofas and a fire. Deliciousrhubarb compot and porridge amid the usual options for breakfast. Thisis a hotel with character where, as one visitor remarked, 'and you canstill sit in the sun and have a coffee in Foyle's window onClifden.,savouring the history of those who have been there before'.

We really enjoyed our weekend in Clifden and liked the Foyles hotel verymuch-it is a little on the noisy side as it is an old building-we wereable to hear people next door conversing when we were in our bathroom-but this did not detract from our stay-i dont know when we enjoyed ahotel breakfast so much-it was nice to be waited on by very pleasantstaff and the food was obviously prepared as ordered-all to often inhotels we have had to serve ourselves with food that was prepared hoursearlier=would stay again and hopr to return to Connemara

Because it is a family-run hotel it feels like home from home. My daughters and I areespecially happy with the restaurant, Marconis.

Great location - which gave us the freedom of staying in and cooking orgoing out to eat. Made our short weekend stay really easy to arrange -will most definitely book this accommodation again if it is available.Although the location is in the centre of the town we were not botheredby any noise from the road, or the local establishments. It is a verycomfortable apartment - which would suit anyone staying from one night -or for a holiday.
Katrin  — 13.2.2012.
Great location right in the middle of town, great apartment with everything you could possibly want incl dishwasher & washing machine, very nice furniture. Also, ours was the courtyard apartment which was very quiet as facing the back - the others ones might be a bit noisier as they face the road!
Michelle  — 24.2.2012.
I recently stayed in the Penthouse Apartment and I have to say its afabulous apartment, very modern, spotless clean and very homely too. Iwould definitely recommend these apartments to anyone visiting Cliften, the location is perfect too, right in the centre of the town.

The Buttermilk Lodge was a lovely place to stay, where you were made to feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The unlimited supply of tea and coffee in the cosy lounge made us feel right at home. The owners thought of everything, providing free wi-fi and computer access, restaurant menus, maps of the town, weather forecasts and information about live entertainment each evening. The breakfasts set you up for the day. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone.

Every modern comfort was available in each room, while each room wasdecorated in an individual manner. Welcome pot of tea and cake onarrival was much appreciated. Breakfast was as varied and as plentifulas a 4 star hotel. Decor was unique (owners are big into collecting cowornaments - I can empathise with same as I am a cat ornament collectormyself. Plenty of off street parking available and extremely quiet atnight enabling one to enjoy a good night's peaceful sleep.
Michael  — 1.1.2012.
Tea and cake on arrival after a long drive across Ireland was very welcoming and the breakfasts were superb (weight-watchers beware!). The owners were extremely friendly and very helpful with local advice on where to eat in Clifden, places to visit in the area and walking routes. We could not fault the standard of accommodation and quality of service. Buttermilk Lodge will be our first choice for any return trip to Connemara.

Myself and my 2 sisters stayed here in September 2011. The hotel wasvery comfortable and clean, very quiet at night as it was in off mainstreet through an arch. Breakfast was delicious, and plenty of it. Lotsof restaurants hotels and pubs close by. Lots of music in the pubs eachnight we were there and the arts festival was brilliant. We woulddefinitely stay here again!!!!!!!

Peace and quiet, despite being located in the centre of Clifden. Very nice, friendly staff. The room was clean, the breakfast - excellent, and what's not that frequent in Irish b&b's - continental breakfast was also on offer. I'll definitely choose this place again, while next time in Clifden.

If you are looking for a great stay at a B&B. I highly recommend the Connemara County Lodge. Mary was a delight. She was warm friendly and what a great breakfast she provided. She also put in an interesting twist in your stay. She will play some Irish tunes with her violin and as well sing . Her B&B is every thing we asked for. Mary had a great sense of humor, however she can be tricky as well, but in a fun way. Beleive me she made us comfortable and gave us suggestions what to do while we spent 2 days in Clifden and her lodge.
Brian  — 13.2.2012.
We stayed three nights in this excellent guest house. There was a very warm welcome and that warmth and friendly approach continued throughout our stay. It is quiet, comfortable and clean. The Irish breakfasts were irresistable; and breakfast was a thoroughly enjoyable start to the day. The "Lodge" is well located for visiting Connemara and Clifden has many types of restaurants and pubs providing good dining options.
Anonymous  — 22.11.2011.
This place is great. What started out as a beautiful irish breakfastturned into a music session with keyboard, guitar, tin whistle andfiddle. Mary made us feel right at home and was constantly threatened idhave to wash the dishes if I didnt enjoy myself!!! Will stay there againin the close future.
