“Peaceful, comfortable accommodation situated in picturesque surroundings.” Date of review: 8 May 2011 - New 1person found this review helpful A gem - upon arrival we were warmly greeted by Catriona. Our en-suite room was cosy and warm and very easy on the eye. Catriona provided us with a very welcome pot of tea and biscuits upon arrival. Ashton House is situated beside the Meeting of the Rivers and the Avoca River flows behind it. The Meetings public house is literally 2 minutes walk (neighbour!). The accommodation throughout is very clean and tastefully decorated. A fantasic breakfast was served up by Shane. Both Catriona and Shane are very pleasant hosts. Breakfast consisted of fresh fruit, yoghurts, cereals and a choice of full Irish or continental. I can highly recommend the full Irish! If you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing and reasonably priced break then Ashton House is the place to go. It is centrally located - approx. 3 km to the village of Avoca and approx. 2 km to

The owners, Caitriona and Shane were very pleasant and helpfulthroughout. Shane provided us tea and biscuits the minute we arrived andwas helpful with info of the area. The house has a perfect surroundingswith a pretty river/stream behind the house, very peaceful environmentwith soothing chirps of wild birds in the background. Room was big andwell equipped, very comfortable and it has a view of the river! Thebreakfast was plentiful and delicious, and Caitriona told us a nicehistory of the place and the house. A really good place to stay ifplanning to visit the Wicklow Mountains area or just to enjoy thecountryside. Will definitely recommend the place! Well done Caitrionaand Shane :)

This B&B is in a beautiful location. You are in the country on a river and can get a quiet, peaceful night of sleep. The owners are so friendly and helpful. They gave us dinner suggestions and made reservations for us at the restaurant. They always followed up and made sure we were happy. Breakfast was great. The bedroom and bathroom were a good size and very clean. Even though you are out in the country you are within a quick walk to a local pub with music, drinks, and food.

I highly recommend this B&B. My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Old Coach House. The owners, Mitch and Barbara went out of their way to make us feel at home. They gave wonderful advice on places to see while in Ireland, especially Wicklow. I was expecting a package to arrive by mail during my stay, but as luck would have it, it arrived after we left Wicklow. Mitch and Barbara held the package for me for several days and when my friend and I returned to the B&B to retrieve the package, we were greeted as old friends, spending the evening on the back porch drinking wine and chatting with Mitch and Barbara. My friend and I can't say enough about this B&B - it's in a wonderful location, in a stunningly beautiful county, run by an amazing family.

What's not to like? From the friendly & warm hospitality of Mick & Barbara to the decor and ambience of the house, I loved it and will definitely return. I liked the presence of pets about the place too...very homely feel. I was sitting outside on the 2nd evening and Mick came over to ask if I would like a complimentary glass of wine. Very nice touch and I gladly accepted. At the Old Coach House they operate an "honesty bar" in the guest lounge, this was good because my friend & I preferred to return to the beautiful lounge for a nightcap & a chat. All in all, possibly the most welcoming & charming guest house ive stayed in to date.

What a pleasant surprise in a generally underrated region near the Wicklow Mountains! The Old Coach House is an old historic buildung with a lots of charme, warmth, personal touch and attention to the details. Barbara and Michael the hosts have created a very special, personal atmosphere. The lounge with antique sofas and an open fireplace is a very cosy place after a day out in the mountaons, and the breakfast is superb. Staying there is like staying with friends, and the house has a lots of history. (However, if you prefer to stay in a sterile, franchise-style yet boring hotel chain, do not go there.)
