members of my family stayed at your hotel as we were attending my sister's funeral. When the staff found out they were extremely respectful and caring, asking us if there was anything we wanted we just had to ask. What a caring staff you have, especially one man who worked in the bar. He made us late night sandwiches and teas and made sure we were all ok. We are all so grateful to the staff of your hotel, as this was a very sad time for us, but it was made more bearable by the care and attention of those truly wonderful staff members. Thank you from each and every one of us.

Excellent location. Not in the hussle/bussle of the town so no loud noise at night time, and 3/4 mins walk from everything that you needed to get to. Great location within Athlone no transport required to travel to town centre only a couple of mins walk. Apart from breakfast we didnt eat in the hotel, but I have to say, the breakfast was an excellent buffet. The food ranged from cereals, pastries, continental and full irish and you could eat as much as you wished!! The room that we stayed in was standard and that is what you got!! Clean and basic. If I stayed again I would upgrade, but that is just me...... Yes, I would recommend a stay here as you also have the river shannon running along side the hotel and if you are lucky you might even get a room with a view of the river shannon. When booking do ask for a room overlooking the shannon.

Delighted to find a hotel which welcomed my dog without any fussy restrictions and allowed her to stay in my room with me. I would recommend this hotel to any dog owner. As a vegetarian I was pleased to find 4 vegetarian options on the Granary bar menu - some hotels can't even manage one! Well done - hope to stay here again. Conveniently located, too.

The free wi fi did not work but I have wi fi on my laptop anyway so Ididn't ask them to fix it. The food is not exactly award winning and thefried breakfast was not great either. The staff are excellent and therooms were very nice combined with the fact the hotel charges veryreasonable rates. I booked again for the following weekend as well.Another big factor was the free parking plus the hotel is easy to findfrom the motorway. Athlone town centre is only a few minutes away butwithout the noise and problems of being in the city centre itself.

I was attending a conference at a different hotel in Athlone towncentre, it was much more expensive and I just wanted to stayovernight. The staff were so so helpful and nice. Breakfast was lovelyand staff friendly. The room was a single with a double bed, it wasclean and sufficient, the only negative was it I possible to hearneighbours in hall or above in shower which woke me earlier thanneeded. Location is great, literally off slip road at exit five andhas garage, woodies, mcDonalds and more aroud it. Hard to see hotel,it is at the back of these.

One of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. I loved it from the moment we walked through the foyer, and we were treated like royalty from start to finish. Beautiful impressive hotel with a lot of attention to detail. Staff are friendly and polite, going out of their way to help. The place is run like clockwork and the beds are most impressive...they are huge! I stayed in the huge family room and it catered to our every need. Breakfast next morning was delicious, and the home made brown bread was amazing. I will definetely be booking again and recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a luxurious stay in Athlone.
Ron  — 15.1.2012
Very nicely appointed hotel. A big step above, some of the Sheraton's I have experienced in Canada and the US. We attended a wedding at the hotel and the staff's attention to detail was over and above the call of duty, ensuring that everyone was happy and their needs were attended to, especially the bride and groom. Haven't had that good a stay in a hotel, at that price range for a long time. Usually just expect comfort, courtesy and cleanliness in that price range, but it was exceeded. Hotel staff genuinely seemed to work as a team. Whoever was responsible for assembling that group of staff and instilling those standards, should be very proud. Hopefully we'll return to Ireland and Athlone and stay again. Thanks again.

This is a busy hotel particularly at weekends and Athlone has become a very popular destination for Hen nights (not always a good thing) We were there for a parents' milestone birthday and had our children with us so a good nights sleep was a priority. Unfortunately our room was adjacent to some of the afore mentioned "hens" and we knew immediately that this had the potential to be a problem later in the night. We rang reception and enquired if anything could be done. In fairness to them they were most understanding and immediately arranged a new room in a quieter part of the hotel. We had booked dinner in the restaurant and during dinner the manager who had moved our bags came to our table and gave us complimentary drinks which was a very nice touch. On checking out the duty manager and assistant manager met us, apologised again for any inconvenience and updated our profile so that on future stays we would receive a quiet room. The management and staff have their finger on the pulse

The location right on the main street of Athlone could not be beat. They had free parking and we could walk everywhere. Fun places nearbyand a small grocery across the street at which we bought juice androlls for breakfasts. The staff was friendly and helpful. We found outthat we didn't have to take the tour boat to Clonmanoise ... it was apleasant short drive. The hotel was professional and yet very invitingand comfortable. Good price for the money ... we had a triple room thatwas spacious.

Once of the most pleasant, cleanest B&B's I've stayed in! Tea and coffeein the room, a delicious breakfast included in your room charge, andjust a very inviting atmosphere. The rooms were quite spacious and itlooked as though they had been recently renovated and repainted.

The room was very comfortable and very well furnished. The staff werereally nice, even taking the trouble to know my name and use it when Iwas dealing with them. The guesthouse is situated very close to Athlonetown centre and it is very easy to get there. The pub attached to theguesthouse was lively and the bar staff were very friendly. The music onthe Sunday night we stayed there was top class. All in all a reallypleasant stay.

Hazel Buckley, the proprietor couldn't have made us feel more welcome. She was very hospitable and went out of her way to please you. Breakfast was cooked precisely how you asked for it and Hazel facilitated our request as a family to a very early breakfast due to our daughter participating in the Community Games. The bedroom was lovely and spacious with a good size ensuite, TV and tea/coffee making facilities. When we go to Athlone again we will certainly return to Shines.
