I cannot overstate the good location of this hotel, which is onHeidelberg's Hauptstrasse in die Altstedt (old quarter), and acomfortable walk from die alte Bruecke, the old bridge, and themedieval castle. The tradeoff is that, since the Altstedt is a coupleof miles from the Hauptbahnhof, it requires a bus (No. 32) from thestation to Universitaet Platz, then a walk of about a quarter mile tothe hotel -- no real difficulty, but we usually like to stay close tothe station for convenience. Hauptstrasse is an interesting street towalk, mostly a pedestrian zone with a few motor vehicles. Beds werecomfortable and the bathroom spacious, with a shower but no tub. Ourplan did not include breakfast, so we ate breakfast elsewhere onHauptstrasse, and thus we cannot comment on the quality of breakfast. As with just about everywhere we stayed in Germany, the staff wasextraordinarily helpful, businesslike and friendly, and tolerant of ourmeager German language skills.

A hotel still with a 1692 atmosphere (renovated 1904) that some may find stuffy - an extremely quiet area (pedestrian zone) in the heart of old part of the city of Heidelberg that some may find shabby genteel. For me it was a superb experience where you could breathe the history of the place.

This hotel is in the heart of the Old Town of Heidelberg. Right in the middle of shopping/bars/restaurants. Easy walk to the funicular that takes you to the Heidelberg Castle. Only a few blocks to the bus station where you can take a bus to anywhere in the city. So happy we stayed here!
